James was on HMS Dartmouth serving at Gallipoli and was present at the Battle of Jutland on board HMS Constance a ship of the 4th Light Cruiser Squadron.

RICHARD NICOLSON

214481 RICHARD NICOLSON A.B. H.M.S. COLLEN

The medals come with copy service records. medal rolls, copy newspaper artical about his accident and death.

Richard enlisted in 1901, discharged in 1923. During World War One he served on HMS Jessamine, this ship sunk the German U-Boat, 104, in 1918.  After leaving the Royal Navy in 1923 Richard became a merchant seaman and unfortunately on Christmas Eve 1935, fell into the harbour between a ship and harbour wall, rescued but later died at hospital.

DONALD MORE BAIN

Medal named to

9782 B. D.M. Bain, SMN, R.N.R.

Comes with copy service papers, Donald was serving on the Armed Merchant Cruiser HMS  Esperance Bay at the time carrying 10 million pounds in gold  when the ship was attacked and damaged by German aircraft after leaving England in 1940.

The naming around the rim can be read, but has been damaged.

ARTHUR CHARLES LONG Royal Navy

SS112275 Born Southampton 24th October 1893

The medals have been mounted on a board the original mounting bar is on the back. Arthur enlisted in May 1912 and was on board HMS Audacious when she sank after hitting a mine in 1914. He served on HMS Scourge in the Dardanelles landing ANZAC troops on the beaches and was shot up by Turkish machine guns.  At the end of the war Arthur is on the river gunboat HMS Ladybird in operations against the Communist in the Black Sea.  After the war Arthur was at sea with the Merchant Navy until at least 1935. Medals come with copy service records and copy Merchant Navy record cards along with details what ships he was on.

JAMES CRAIG

Royal Navy

J108139 Born Glasgow 14th October 1907

James enlisted during 1923 as a boy seaman. 

During World War Two he was a diver on boom defence vessels,  whilst serving on the vessel Bayonet, she hit a mine and sank . The medal was issued during 1943 when James was on the Kuroki boom defence vessel.
