Medal named to H.D. Newman H.M.Y. Victoria & Albert

During World War Two Harold became a Temporary Warrant Shipwright

Medal comes with copy King George 5th Jubilee medal roll. Harold was also awarded the George 6th 1937 Coronation Medal, roll included along with WW2 service records untill 1941

Born September 1925, joined the National Fire Service September 1941 age 16

Enlisted for Royal Navy June 1943

Medals come with original Certificate of Service, History sheet Certificate of National Fire Service. Two medals have original ribbons which have been cut off a mounted bar.

 JACK CLARENCE HARRIS Royal Navy

Killed in Action when HMS Barham  was torpedoed in 1941.

Jack was a pre war regular seaman from Brierley Hill, Staffordshire,  marred to Violet Jessie Rose Barton of Melksham Wiltshire, the pair had a daughter Patricia. 

The medal slip which came with the medals has not been looked after and has sellotape to hold it together.

The address on the medal box is 33 Campbell Street, Jacks parents lived in 1939  at number 54 Campbell Street. 

On 25th November 1941, as part of the Mediterranean Fleet, H.M.S. Barham was one of three battleships and eight destroyers tasked with covering an attack on Italian convoys when she was hit at 4.25pm, by three torpedoes fired by the German submarine U-331. The torpedoes were fired from a range of only 750 yards, providing no time for evasive action, and struck closely together. As Barham rolled over to port, her magazines exploded and she quickly sank with the loss of more than two-thirds of her crew. Out of a total compliment of 1,184 officers and ratings, 841 were killed.

 FRANK WILLIAM JOHN COOMBER Royal Navy

Killed in Action when H.M.S. Whirlwind was torpedoed in 1940.

Frank was a pre war regular seaman from Redhill Surrey,  marred to Emily Nellie Walker. 

HMS Whirlwind was a World War One destroyer . The ship took part in operations off Norway. On 5 July 1940, she was sunk by the German submarine U-34 under the command of Wilhelm Rollmann in the North Atlantic Ocean southwest of Ireland.
