FRANK NORMAN SUDDABY

Born in Hull 17th November 1896

1st Mate

Discharge number 858306 

Frank was on board the steamship Samoset when torpedoed and sunk by U33 20th March 1918. During World War Two he was serving on the steamship Ger-Y-Bryn when sunk by torpedo 5th March 1943 North West of Lisbon by U-130, commanded by Siegfried Keller while part of Convoy XK-2. All 47 members of the crew were rescued by the Royal Navy. U-130 was Sunk 7 days later on 12 March 1943 in the North Atlantic west of the Azores, in position 37.10N, 40.21W, by depth charges from the US destroyer USS Champlin. 53 dead (all hands lost). 

Frank went on to served until the 1950s

VICTOR VIVIAN

Born in Hull on 9th July 1890 

2nd Engineer

Discharge number 688194

Victor went to sea just prior to the start of WW1. He can be found on the 1915 crew list serving on board the steamship FRANCISCO. Details come with medals, He served at sea until 1951. During WW2 we was on the steamship Harpasa when bombed by Japanese aircraft and sunk. Medals come with supporting papers, some sent electronically, BT382 from Kew included.

GEORGE LUGSDIN ALEXANDER

Born 27th August 1893 South Shields 

Master Mariner

Discharge number 748209

Awarded ORDER of the BRITISH EMPIRE

London Gazette 12 June 1941

Whilst captain of a collier the SS Sylvia Beale, 9th March 1941, this ship was attacked, bombed and damaged by aircraft in the Dover Straits. George also took part in the invasion of France in 1944 taking supplies over to Normandy.

ARTHUR WILLIAM CROSSLEY

Born 14th January 1898 Leyton, London

Arthur spent most of World War Two on the Empire Livingstone, This ship was known as HMS 25 for the invasion of French West Africa. December 1943 and the ship became a total loss after she ran aground in French North Africa.
